Global migration seminar with Nacira Guénif-Souilamas, in collaboration with research network Migration and Ethnicity Research Gothenburg University, MERGU, at the Department of Sociology and Work Science.

In her presentation, Nacira Guénif-Souilamas will draw from her chapter in the book Religion and the Secular, and the Politics of Sexual Difference, entitled On French Religions and Their Renewed Embodiments.

Do authorities try to protect sameness by constructing an anti-sexist patriarchy, in order to avoid tackling longstanding inequalities in French society

Nacira Guénif-Souilamas is a professor at University Paris 8 Vincennes - Saint-Denis in France. Her research and teaching interests encompass mobility, migrations and minorities in post/colonial France, Europe and Beyond Souths, considered as a standpoint for examining sexualisation, racialisation, othering and inequalities entangled experiences.

Among her publications in French and English: 'Les féministes et le garçon arabe' (The feminists and the Arab boy), 2004; 'Restrained equality. A sexualized and gendered colour line', in Jonsson, Stefan, & Willén, Julia (eds.). 'Austere histories in European societies: social exclusion and the contest of colonial memories'.
