International Migrants Day: Dialogues in Academia and in Practice

News: Dec 20, 2018

For the International Migrations Day on December 18th the Centre on Global Migration (CGM) arranged a full day of seminars and exhibition focusing on inclusion/exclusion, integration and well-being.

The event started with a welcome speech by Dr. Andrea Spehar, Director at CGM. The opening of the event was followed by seminar speakers: Branka Likic Brboric (Linköping University) discussed the changing role of Sweden as a role model in refugee integration, Norma Montesino (Lund University) spoke about the conceptualization of migration and refugees in Swedish Welfare Services and Anna Bredström (Linköping University) continued by discussing the so called "Healthy Migrant Paradox".

A panel discussion was carried out during the afternoon including representatives from IM Swedish Development Partner and The Swedish Network of Refugee Support Groups, FARR, and followed by an open fair with different (student)organisations presenting their work.

The aim of the event was to gain insight on current multidisciplinary discussions from both academic and practical perspectives and make connections with students and student organizations working directly with these issues.

The event was organized by Rachel Bulgach (Linköping University), Elisabeth Pavez Bravo (University of Gothenburg) and Womma Habiba Hira (University of Gothenburg) - students doing internship at the Centre for Global Migration.
